The reincarnation of Demon King Piccolo. He joined the 23rd World Tournament under the alias "Junior" to take revenge against Goku, who had killed his previous incarnation. His clash against Goku in the finals was a magnificent spectacle. Junior exhibits much less of the cruel streak demonstrated by his forebearer.
Shortly thereafter, he began to train in order to defeat Goku and take over the world, but the arrival of a greater threat--Raditz--forced him to team up with his rival instead. After the arrival of the Saiyans and many other enemies he shared with Goku, Piccolo found himself slowly starting to fight to save the world he had once dreamed of dominating. Unlike Goku, however, he is willing to do what it takes to win a fight, even if it means killing a comrade, as he did with Goku when fighting Raditz.
Demon King Piccolo and Kami were originally two halves of the same Namekian, making Piccolo both a Namekian and a member of the demon clan. The split with Kami reduced his true power considerably, but Piccolo was able to eventually recombine with Kami as well as merge with Nail on Planet Namek, allowing him to regain his power and then some.
Piccolo had fully intended to make Gohan a member of the demon clan after the battle with the Saiyans, but the six months he spent looking after the young warrior awakened within him a sense of fondness he had never felt before. Gohan, too, grew to rely on Piccolo, and the pair's relationship as master and student thus would continue indefinitely.
